The temple is not very big and covers an area of only 3,600 square meters. What is important is that there are in the temple all kinds of artistic treasures of Dai people from different historical stages during these hundreds of years like frescoes, paper-cuts and thousands of columns of lections.
The pair of stone carving animals in front of the main hall are a kind of magic animals in Burmese legends which are called “Gaduo” whose job is to guard the main hall of the Temple. Bodhi Temple is not only a place for the monks to patter and for the followers to worship, but also a precious deposit of traditional arts of Dai people.
After repairing and painting, the main hall of Bodhi Temple becomes more dignified. Every time when it is 8th, 15th, 23th, 30th in every lunar year, the followers of Buddhism from neighbouring villages would gather here to worship with fresh flowers and offerings. The Temple is quiet famous in Burma and in southeast Asia

[hide]History[edit]
Puti Temple was first built in 1667, in the 16th year of Kangxi period (1661–1722) in the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). The temple was named "Bodhi Temple" by master Dengci (等慈法师).[2] The temple is named Puti (Bodhi) Temple because it has a big Bodhi tree.[1] In the Yongzheng period (1723-1735), Yongzheng Emperor (1678–1735) inscribed a plaque with the Chinese characters "佛光普照" (佛光普照 means Buddhism lights illuminate everywhere) and bestowed it on the temple.
In 1942, during the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Japanese air force made an air strike on Mangshi, the temple was devastated by war and a fire consumed the Bodhi tree.
In 1950, the temple was demolished in a fire. From 1953 to 1956, the local people rebuilt the temple. In 1978, the local government renovated the temple.[2]
Architecture[edit]
Main Hall[edit]
The main hall is a place-style roof wooden building is 14-metre (46 ft) high and consists of three parts, namely the roof truss, roof ridge and hall pinnacle. With the wooden-structured roof truss, the main hall has 12 large columns which penetrate through the floor to the beams and form the top frame. The smaller wood columns on both sides support the side room formed by auxiliary beams, making the main hall more spacious. The integrates the hip and gable roof (歇山顶) of Han Chinese and stilt wooden style (干栏式) of Dai people, which shows dedicated and unique design.[1][4]
In the middle of the main hall, a 3-metre (9.8 ft) high statue of Sakyamuni is sitting on the lotus throne. The niches on both sides of the statue enshrine several dozens of statues of Buddha statues with various shapes. On both sides of the main hall there are two stone legendary animals called Gaduo (嘎朵) which shoulder the responsibilities of guarding the main hall.[1]

Bodhi Temple is recorded that the Temple was built in the year of Kangxi 16 in Qing Dynasty. At that time, the eldest son of Chief of Mangshi gave up his official position, shaved his head and became a monk; later he built a temple. Before the temple stood a big bodhi tree; so the temple was called Bodhi Temple. In the following 300 years, the Temple had gone through repeated chaos caused by wars and suffered a lot. It has been repaired for many times; till now, except for the roof built in the style of Han nationality, the whole building has a style of Dai.
The pair of stone carving animals in front of the main hall are a kind of magic animals in Burmese legends which are called “Gaduo” whose job is to guard the main hall of the Temple.
